If you're bsically starting from the bottom in mid 2007 might as well put your time/effort into something else if money is a primary concern. Agree?

[/ QUOTE ]

Was this directed to me or Dids?

I'm confused as to what other fields you suggest putting time into where you can get returns as quickly as poker.

I quit online poker about a week or two before the legislation, I wanted to make sure I got all my money if worst case scenerio happened (seized funds etc), I play some 30/60 at the casinos, and some bigger home games. From what Im reading there are still good games going? what sites? is rakeback still available? what limits are still available? Last thing I played was the 10/20 6 max, and 15/30 games. Anyone want to give a lazy bastard a rundown of where to play, which gamaes on that site, and how to deposit? I wouldnt mind saving some gas money.

Seems like your best bet for getting $$ on a site is trading someone live cash for online. Moneygram is a really easy way to get $600 or so on a site for $10 (at least for stars).

As for game quality, I dont play limit. I was randomly looking through the stars 10/20 6m games and saw a lot of people openlimping utg, and lots of 4 way limped pots.

Id be willing to re-learn no limit I guess, it would help me out in live games too because there is one 30/60 here in town that runs 3 times a week, and tons of nl. which has more fish nowadays, ftp or stars?

I felt like this until the start of 2006. I had ground out a living half heartedly for a couple of years, making like 40K/yr to self sustain my lazy existence. Then I realised if I never got my act together and got something out of this oppurtunity that fell into all our laps I would regret it forever, so I started grinding hard, building my roll, and moving up. Then I learnt NL. In the past 18 months I have made more than 300K, and bought a sweet apartment right in the city. Just do it man, it's worth it.

LFS,

"Thank God online poker didn't exist when I was in college."

Had it been present, I could see myself potentially being far less or far more successful right now. I've contemplated that a number of times.

[/ QUOTE ]

I feel like I'd be much richer, but also much much much fatter, anti social and useless.

However, on another note, it would be nice to go to school in the mid 2000s, when girls stopped wearing clothes.

They are about equal in game quality. I play stars because I like the software/CS so much more, and im supernova.

FTP has had some cashout issues recently, check the internet forum.

Dids arent you 30ish?

If so, I think your line here is definitely standard for your age: "What if I had done X differently"

Dont beat yourself up over it

Ha, I say the exact opposite of this all the time. Not all players who have success drop out of school or let their grades drop.

I have no way to prove this other than with broad logic, but I think that poker caused me to mature much faster than my friends. This is difficult to prove because who knows how quickly I would have matured without poker? But given that maturation results from many different experiences, and given that poker provides a person with many different experiences that they otherwise would not acquire (eg- travelling around the world, learning to control emotions, believing in yourself/your instincts, etc.), I conclude that poker caused me to mature quickly.

As for OP--

The games aren't that tough if you're a decent player who works hard at improving. I dunno, I have a crazy (according to some of my buddies) work ethic, and I think that's all you need (along with emotional control and trusting your instincts) to make a good amount of money.

As for Diablo--

I cannot believe you made 200k+ at poker, and played me at HUNL400. wowowow, and I thought *I* was conservative with my bankroll....

GB: FWIW, I was betting $50-500/hand at BJ all weekend. What I decide to play at poker doesn't really have much of anything to do with bankroll, just what I feel like playing at any given time.

JJ: I am very tempted to ban you for the horrific memories you have brought up with that Cisco comment.
