Gambling can become an obsession and even an addiction. If I were convinced that playing poker had become one of these I would quit. (After the intervention and 3 weeks at a treatment facility).

Honestly, I wonder if people can be both compulsive gamblers as well as winning gamblers. Seems like they could, if hte playing took precidence over all of the other aspects of their life.

There are other aspects?

I am obsessed, so I did read the thread. Seems easy. All you need is a 50K stake to make your 750K. It is all math, you cant argue with math!

why is death not an option?

[/ QUOTE ]

Because "Death is not an option" (my favorite game)

My real answer is if my kids would leave me if I didn't (can't imagine why, but you asked).

I will probably quit online poker in the next year or so after graduating from college. I'll either have a job that I enjoy, or be living abroad somewhere where I can find much more satisfying things to do than sit on a computer all day.

Hahah, You think all the people making money here sit on the computer all day?

The high level players can make over a thosuand dollars/day in a couple hours "work".

And I wish I had that ability. In order to make a living I would need to grind out the $22s or $33s. Basically, in order to get to the level where I could make thousands of dollars/day I would need to invest far more time and effort than I'm willing to (it's not a quick or easy route, at least for me). I simply don't have the desire to devote countless hours to grind my way up to the $215s/$530s, and I certainly won't have that desire when I graduate college.

[ QUOTE ]
If my wife felt more strongly about me not playing poker than I feel about playing poker, then I'd give it up. We try to value each other's happiness equally.

If my family felt far more strongly abou me not playing poker than I feel about playing poker, I'd give it up.

I wouldn't give it up for many friends no matter how strongly they felt about it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why would you give it up for your family but not for your friends? I'd think most people are closer to their friends, seeing as how they get to choose them.
