That's a reasonable point about the possibilty of being up against hands like AA and 99. We don't have info on preflop betting, so we have no reads on this and it's not what the hand example is about. The thing the Inside Poker columnist was talking about was that theoretically, some of your outs could well be on the flop, in your hole cards and the burn card. This is clearly nonsense - we know what our hole cards are and we know what the flop is. The chance of one of our 15 outs being on the flop and in your hole cards and therefore "out already" is zero! He makes the maths of this hand stupidly complicated when in fact the simple maths is exactly like what you say vdh: 15/47 = 0.319 - that's it!
