All these things are examples of relief from some form of tension. Ditto with the OP's point about a woman discovering she's not pregnant. Even an orgasm is a release from sexual tension.

Relief, in some form, is the root of all the greatest feelings we can have. Eternal blissful contentment would not feel as good as extraordinary relief.

But, IMO, nothing compares to a drink of water on a hot day when you're insanely thirsty. I climbed Stone Mountain in Atlanta one day when it was about 90 degrees and nothing will compare to the orgasmic feeling that first drink from the water fountain gave me when we got to the top. I was so thirsty I was ready to drink my own piss. Then I got to that water fountain and drank for about 15 mins straight. Pure bliss.
