Re: Why poker and not porn?
[ QUOTE ]
Why ban porn? Seriously, with poker there is a reasonable argument that some poeple are compulsive gamblers and ruin their lives/families lives. What reasonable argument is there for making porn illegal? [/ QUOTE ] With pornography the same argument is just as reasonable. |

Re: Why poker and not porn?
[ QUOTE ]
1/ There is a huge domestic porn industry. 2/ Probably unconstitutional. [/ QUOTE ] This is the right answer, although 1 is far more important than 2. |

Why ban porn?
Because it's the current administrations responsibility to make sure everybody goes to their version of heaven. |

A fixation with porn may interfere with some personal relations but certainly no more than destitution. Ruining your life and future is realistic, if rare, with poker; unrealistic with porn. |

A fixation with porn may interfere with some personal relations but certainly no more than destitution. [/ QUOTE ] And no less. Before we go round-and-round for another 20 posts or so let me explicitly state that I was implying that pornography can destroy families in ways other than financial ruin. Rare? A stretch? Sure. But the same is true for gambling (esp. online gambling specifically, given deposit limits, etc.) and look where that got us. It's not like some donk can deposit the entire balance of his $150k savings account into Party and lose it on one hand of BJ. The claim that the online gambling industry has connections to terrorists has just as much of a factual basis as the claim that the pornography industry has connections to terrorists. That being none whatsoever. Online pornography is also much more easily accessible to young children than is online gambling. "Click your mouse and lose your innocence" just doesn't have that same ring to it. |

Re: Why poker and not porn?
I heard that one of the reasons internet gambling was banned is because there was no way to verify the age of someone playing.(hogwash)Also because of the majority republican house and sentate at the time, I'm sure there was a morality issue involved ie... gambling is addictive, causes problems etc.. However Porn is much easier accessed and just as hard to verify the age of the user. Also the morality issue is definately there. So if the first ammendment or whatever protects porn then why doesn't it protect internet poker.
I don't know a lot about the laws in play here but I have a sense that internet poker was a lot easier of a target than pornagraphy even though they are both billion dollar industries. It almost seems hypocritical to ban "gambling" on the internet while this same internet is producing increasing numbers of child molestors and sex addicts than ever in the history of man yet nothing is being done to diminish its presence on the web. |

Pretty easy to figure out that they like what they do by watching behind the scenes. |
