Raise PF.

Bet the flop, usually win, fold to a check raise.

As played, raise the turn = free showdown.

As played, fold the river, and three betting is either a genius play against this guy or a tremendous spew. Depends.

Tex, I appreciate your taking the time to post, but this isn't about pre-flop, flop or turn action. This post is about what to do on the river, and why.

I figured that the way Villian played the hand painted him as obviously not having much with the river card, and felt I could take it away from him given the way he bet the hand.

Yeah, I know it was about the river, but when in rome....

I think that you've got a little bit of sherrif in you. I'd laydown on this river most of the time, in fact almost all the time, because all your hand can beat is a bluff. Assuming we knew this player to be one of the 95 VPIP's in the game, I call, but against anyone else I cant find any EV in making this rive call. Now that i've said that, I'd be more inclined to three bet the river, and fold to a cap obviously.

I think taking pots away from people in this spot is way too hard to try.

I'd pick a better spot, and there are plenty.

If I was "playing sherrif" I'd just be calling him on the river to see what he was betting.

I chose to raise because my opponent had played the hand in a manner that indicated he was either drawing and missed, or was just trying to buy the pot.

I think I lay down on the turn the majority of the time, given my hand is usually hoping to just chop a small pot. But I believe the river raise is the correct play based on his actions.
