[/ QUOTE ] FYP [/ QUOTE ] So by going to one of the top public schools in the nation for 4 years that costs about 1.8 years at NU, you aren't getting a good education? I could go to community college for two years, then go on to a cheap, public state school and get "a better education" than 10 years at Northwestern. It's not all about what is in the books boys and girls. |

Re: Ship it Holla Illini???
There are pros and cons of private and state schools. It's stupid to say which is a better choice. Most people that chose state schools are going to say private schools are a waste of money, and most people going to top private are going to say that others are just jealous that they couldn't get in.
That is my theory at least. |

Re: Ship it Holla Illini???
Not many people pay the full price of a private college, at least the upper echelon ones. For example, Northwestern is actually about the same or cheaper than the UCs would be for me or for out of state tuition at Ill.
You are right, its not all about the books, and any smart driven kid at any state school will outperform a lazy slacker from an upper echelon private. I'm not defending the other guys statement about "LOL, state school," because I could've easily ended up at one too. However, a top private school has resources that a good public just cant offer. If I had to pay full price at Northwestern or any other private, I wouldn't be going there, I'd be at UCLA, UCSD, or Cal, and you'd be right. But a lot of people assume anyone going to a private is leaving with 160k in debt, which is just not the case for most people. |

Re: Ship it Holla Illini???
Man you guys are making me so jealous. I graduated in '03 and even though I'm in LA now, I can confidently say that it hasn't been a fraction as great as college was.
There will never be another time in your life where there are so many opportunities that are made for meeting new people and hooking up. I may come back at some point this year to do a show with my old improv group (I used to be prez of Spicy Clamato) and I can't wait. Just hope I'm not the gross 26 year old dude on campus (although I guess there are plenty of grad students that old or older). Remember, in a week when you're banging some drunk freshman on the Quad, to truly enjoy it, because it doesn't last forever. Oh yeah, and of course get a good education too, etc. |
