[ QUOTE ] i saw a news report recently that stated americans spend the least amount of their income on food(and we are fat asses) as a percentage of their income than any other nation. we are blessed. [/ QUOTE ] How was "food" defined? If it was in groceries, that makes sense. US News and World reports reported in 2000 that Americans spend more on dining out than they do on health care. That's probably changed since then. We're not spending our $$$ on food from the grocery store. We're spending our $$$ at McDonalds. I have serious doubts that any nation spends more on dining out than the US (per capita), even as a percentage of net income. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know why McDonalds is always mentioned when talking about food spending. We really need to point fingers at the super expensive fast food establishments; the Quizznos and the Paneras of the world. Sure, McDonalds offer nasty food that makes you fat, but at least you can buy a [censored]-ton of crap for very little money. Meanwhile all these "high class" fast food joints are ripping people off by serving better tasting but equally un-healthy food for tons of money. Damn, it makes me mad. Swede |

Swede [/ QUOTE ] McDonalds is the easy target. Yes, they are not the only guilty party. It's no different than Wal-Mart getting all the bad press when Target, Kmart, Costco are all to blame. But the big giant leaders in those categories, if they changed their practices, I bet many would follow their lead. I don't think the same would be true the other way around. |

For your reference, the budgeted amount for nursing homes for raw food costs in the US, excluding the labor costs, is roughly $5 per resident day. Congrats on eating much cheaper than your average nursing home resident.

$15 is a lot per week. You could get a decent mix of starches and vegetables for that.
I would probably get an 18 pack of eggs loaf of bread ramen bananas yogurt probablu have enough money for some frozen chicken. |
