I'm less concerned about being bluffed out of this pot after a bet and more concerned about being pushed out of the pot by a hand that THINKS it is winning, but actually isn't. Villain probably doesn't think you're as strong as you are, and you might often be raised by a 9T/QT/KT hand as well as full houses and flushes.

[/ QUOTE ]

Good point. I think this could happen a lot. Fishy villain hits trips and thinks he has the nuts.

Against this player, this happens almost never.

I don't see any reads here, how are you making this assumption?

From what little I had observed of this opponent he was a typical loose passive NL50 player.

You dont think villain could be holding 9T type hand, call down w/ a pair and straight draw thinking he has the outs to call? Villian hits one of his "outs" and shoves thinking he has the best of it?

I think this is a very realistic situation. Am I way off?

Doesn't that lend support to my case? I see people raise/check-raise trips all the time with little regard to the way the hand played out.

Farseid1175 (Me): def check behind
Farseid1175: i dont know why you'd ever bet there
quarkstrange101: well
quarkstrange101: I did
quarkstrange101: I'm an idiot
quarkstrange101: I bet $15
quarkstrange101: and the bb check minraised me
quarkstrange101: I folded
quarkstrange101: but was
Farseid1175: i'd say this
Farseid1175: you are beat most of the time there
quarkstrange101: well yeah
quarkstrange101: after the check minraise
quarkstrange101: so like, easiest check behind ever?
Farseid1175: yes
Farseid1175: and no, your not beat after the check minraise
quarkstrange101: !
Farseid1175: you're beat before the check minraise
quarkstrange101: well yeah
Farseid1175: you beat KJ and QJ
Farseid1175: what else
quarkstrange101: I guess I'm running soooo good that I got frisky
Farseid1175: yeah
Farseid1175: i mean
Farseid1175: when the board gets crazy, i just gotta ask
Farseid1175: what do I beat
Farseid1175: OH [censored]
Farseid1175: aha
Farseid1175: whoah def. value bet
Farseid1175: i thought you had QQ
quarkstrange101: NOOOOO
quarkstrange101: don't confuse me
quarkstrange101: no I flopped the joint dude
Farseid1175: oh yeah
Farseid1175: def. value bet no doubt
Farseid1175: eh actually
Farseid1175: its close huh
Farseid1175: ahaha i'm so not helpful
quarkstrange101: lolololololololol
quarkstrange101: post!

So I think I do like a check behind. I think a value bet might have a slim EV edge, but it gets offset by the times when we get c/r by trip tens and fold the best hand.

I check behind here 100%. Jim, I dont think that many people call a bet here without a flush. If i bet I expect to win without a showdown or be beaten by a flush. I take the free showdown and hope he didnt have some sort of ace with a rag of spades or some such POS.

From my experience the check/raise part is pretty typical of these opponents. They hit their hand and say, "well, he's been aggressive all the way through. Why not let him be aggressive one more time so I can get some extra $$ out of it?"
