Default Re: Hellmuth Bias At WSOP

1. There is a hold'em bias because of the internet.

2. Hellmuth is a specialist on a quest and will probably benifit by the larger number of hold'em events.

3. Hellmuth will get 12, 13, 14...and who knows how many more because of this.

4 Brunson and Chan's 10 or whatever they end up getting are much more impressive because of the number of tourneys they have played. Brunson didn't play in anything but the main event for years and the same goes for Chan. Before Moneymaker, for Brunson and Chan it was all about the side action.

5. So I don't care how many bracelets Hellmuth wins. I don't care if there is a bias to hold'em or Hellmuth because in this case 10 is greater than 11.

False premise. The OP regged almost a year ago, and has had plenty of time to lurk.

Phil, while being a HE specialist, does play other games. There's always a chance he could pick up a bracelet in a non-hold'em tournament. Is Phil planning on entering any non-HE events? I don't follow the WSOP very closely.

fwiw I did hear that they made a final table 10-handed instead of 9 so that hellmuth could be on it, and thus on TV (he was shortstacked going in)

Yup. And they changed the TV schedule to include his event too.

They should be filming Alan Sass's 6max final table.

"Brunson didn't play in anything but the main event for years and the same goes for Chan. Before Moneymaker, for Brunson and Chan it was all about the side action."

According to the player profile on pokerpages.com (and Hendon mob site), Brunson won or cashed in non-main-event WSOP contests in the years:
76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 82, 86, 91, 95, 96, 98--all pre-2003 and Moneymaker. Pokerpages doesnt list the non-main-event contests he entered in which he didnt cash. So, he could've played in non-main event contests in other years too.
I know he avoided the WSOP for some years after the Binions stopped owning their casino, but there are still many years he played non main-event contests.
Hellmuth didnt even start competing in the WSOP until 1988 (the guy was born in like 1965 or so, right?).
Also, do you think the WSOP heads sat around a table and said, how do we get Hellmuth more bracelets so he can beat Doyle (who everybody in the sport loves and looks up to)?

The anti-Hellmuth bias is so intense on this site. Let's face it, internet players hate Hellmuth because Hellmuth's style is so different from theirs (and also because of his "interesting" personality).
