since your on the eagles you might be [censored]. Just talk to the guy and see what he says. If he says no then, etiquttely speaking, the bet should stand.
In the future create a new name and add two zeros to the end of whatever your real bet is and then maybe these pricks will take you seriously. |

You don't have $40? WTF? If the Eagles were 4-0, and the Cowboys had lost Romo and T.O. for the season, would you be willing to cancel the bet? You made a bad bet, it happens. You can be stand up and honor your word and pay if you lose, or you can be a slime-bucket for $40. [/ QUOTE ] I would wanna cancel the bet if it was the 1990 NFC pro bowl team vs a high school team. I just don't think I'll have the money if I lose. |

If you HONESTLY WOULD want to cancel the bet even if you looked like a big favorite right now, then pulling out of the bet isn't necessarily *completely* dishonorable. The problem with your situation is that this is the internet and people lie here all the time. So to an uninformed observer who doesn't know you, it *looks* like you're just making up excuses to try to pull out of a bet that certainly looks likely to be a loser right now. Obviously if that's what you are actually doing, it's completely dishonorable.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure there's anything you could say to actually convince us that you would be asking this question if you had the Cowboys and he had the Eagles. Fortunately for you, though, it doesn't matter what we think, it matters what the person you made the bet with thinks, so talk to him. If he's willing to cut you a break, then great. If not, then it IS dishonorable to welch on the bet, but if the $40 is really the difference between ending up homeless or not I suppose it's up to you to decide whether your honor or your roof is more important to you. |

[ QUOTE ] Is there anyway I can get out of this? Is there some ettiquete to this? [/ QUOTE ] No, you cannot get out of this. The etiquette is that the bet stands and you may have to pay money if you lose. That's how betting works. [/ QUOTE ] Well, you can request to buy out of the bet. That is, offer to pay him $5 or something to cancel the bet. Hell, if the odds are looking to be in your favor (i don't follow football) you may even offer him to pay you money to cancel the bet. Best, Bill |

the bet isn't that bad. It's only a little worse than a coin flip.

Death comes for us all, MikeR, but if you call off a sports bet something much worse comes for you. For when you die, it will be... Without honor.

[/ QUOTE ] If that happens you could consider selling your computer and internet costs to cover part of your rent as well as the whopping $40 bet. Also, it's not like it's impossible for the Eagles to win one of the games and for you to break-even. You do know that this doesn't even count as a real situation, right? OMGZ, you're on the hook for $40 and now you might not have the money when it comes time to pay!! Freddy the goon might swing by and break your thumbs over such a debt. |
