This is not a legal play. The refs should throw an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. When I get home to my rulebook, I'll cite the rule.

These are kids. They are learning. This is stupid at this level.

At the right level it might be a good play - particularly if the joker got smashed. It might even be hilarious.

The coach should be ashamed.

I would pull my kid out of any team that pulled this sort of stunt.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry, but trick plays are the best part of pee-wee football. When I used to play, I always looked forward to running trick plays.

As long as it's legal, it's fine.

My favorite trick play is when the QB pretended to have a seizure and cut himself and you have a woman yell "OH MY GOD Don't touch him he has AIDS!" Then have the "trainer" hide out behind the end-zone and have two of his players carry him there with the ball.

I'm sorry, but this play is not legal.
From the National Federation case book:
Rule 9.9.3
"...actions or verbiage designed to confuse the defense into believing there is a problem and a snap isn't imminent is beyond the scope of sportsmanship and is illegal."

You guys are probably the same people that hated the statue of liberty play that Boise St. did in the bowl game.

[/ QUOTE ]

The play posted in the OP is nothing like the statue of liberty play.

edited to add: running a misdirection play after the snap is nothing like yelling to your coach before the snap that the wrong ball is in play and having him take part in the ploy by throwing another ball into the air. you're basically saying any attempt to trick the defense is the same, that this bush league play is no different than play action, a pump fake, a reverse, etc.
