I wanted to give Jack Adamo a Pulitzer after reading this one.

Re: The Auto Fold
I do it a lot and have seen many, many players do it without the dealers ever having been confused. And they get confused easily.

[/ QUOTE ] You fold after only seeing one card? or you blurt out "Hey! this ones good enough I call!" or "*Shrug* Lets see if I can hit my set!" Serious question, I was skeptical reading this article and would like to hear from someone who actually tried this. |

Re: The Auto Fold
There's another funny thing about it. If they're good enough to try to adapt to this unusual behavior, won't they also notice that you can't be playing ace-rag? (If you do, you can't fold after seeing just one card, because the second may be an ace) It's not just a little stupid to make this play, I absolutely agree.

Re: The Auto Fold
Seriously, this will work against good opponents only once. Once they see you pull this trick, like saying, hey, I hope I hit my set, theywill know that you don't have a pair, and will play accordingly.
This is a retarded way to play holdem, just more fancy play, and it really doesn't accomplish much. If you feel you must play retarded from UTG, just straddle ever time, then they won't know what you have. |

Re: The Auto Fold
This could have been titled "Play junk UTG for deception purposes".
Presumably since the writer is playing tightly he's only trying this "expert play" very occasionally. The flop still has to hit his trash hand. Which isn't happening very often. Even then the trash hand can easily be dominated. Going to lose a lot of bets before you actually win a pot with one of these. An interesting read, but I just wonder who is deceiving who |

Re: The Auto Fold
The author mentions this can also work in 7-stud so that if you're dealt an Ace up you can represent a pair of Aces. I don't play 7-stud but aren't you forced to make a bring-in bet depending on your up-card? Wouldn't that bring-in bet be awkward if you've already killed your hand by mucking the first card dealt to you? Sounds fishy to me.
Also, how would the play even work? In the Holdem case he Fakes It by limping UTG on the strength of seeing the first card dealt to him - thus representing an Ace. If he did this in 7-stud wouldn't he be acting out of turn since the High or Low Up-card determines who brings in the bet? I'm suspecting he does this in Holdem but was talking out of his hat and only theorizing about it for 7-stud. PairTheBoard |

Re: The Auto Fold
It's coming toward the end of the month, and still no replies from Ed, Mason, or David about the article. How'd this one get through?

Also, how would the play even work? [/ QUOTE ] Regardless of what game you are playing, the key to this play is announcing in a loud, clear voice that you have a certain type of hand, when in fact you have a different type of hand. You may also want to look around the table and nod vigorously to reinforce that what you are saying is indeed true. /mc |
