Can I ask a silly question? Why go to Vegas if you can only afford $25 a night? I don't see how that is any fun at all.....

[/ QUOTE ]

They have legal gambling there. From what I've heard many find it rather fun.

Well we are planning to go as a graduation present for my girlfriend but although we can afford a decent holiday each year we cant afford to pay the big bucks. Also living in London its not like we want to go over for a couple of nights then fly back we want to stay for at least 10 nights to make it worthwhile. Thats means we have to budget a bit on accomodation

I've heard that it's even more fun to gamble than sleep. The less into the sheets, the more on the streets. Sleeping is overrated, anyway.

I can afford more than $25/night, but I'm only going to vegas bc I'll be on the west coast already for other business. I'm not going with my buddies or gf or whoever, its just gonna be me checking out vegas, playing poker, getting drunk, and hopefully getting laid. I'm not gonna be in my hotel room for more than 7-8 hrs at a time while I'm sleeping.

Anyways, thanks for the replies in this thread. Looks like I'll probably try to book somewhere on the strip for a few extra bucks. On a side note, is downtown even worth checking out if I'm gonna be in town for 2-4 days?

That is waaaay too much time to spend sleeping if you are only going to be there for 2 or 3 days.

The Freemont Street Experience show at night is free and worth checking out for a couple of hours.

Binions Horseshoe is worth a stop to say you have been there. The Gold Nugget is nice. Main Street has a great brew pub, The 4 Queens is another classic, etc.

Not sure what Barry's standards are or how good his 'game' is.
But as far as getting laid goess I think staying at El C could only help the cause.

Default Vegas for the skint

[ QUOTE ]

yea thanks, a bit of further investigating has shown that we can get a room at the Imperial Palace within our budget so that should be ok

[/ QUOTE ]

Other than the annoyance of slow elevators, you be much happier at the Imperial Palace because of its great location, a short walk to Caesars, Mirage, Bellagio, etc.

If you are skint or just looking for a cheap place to hoist a pint, it's a short walk to both O'Sheas and Casino Royale.
No Bubbles and Squeak tho...

good luck

The Cigar Lounge in the 4 Queens is becoming one of my favorite places to drink.
I'm particularly found of their Allnighter brew.

the food is good as well, and there is a waitress there at night who is very good and quite a looker.

It would certainly impress someone staying at the Western.

BTW, Golden Nugget downtown recently renovated. The pool is amazing. The digs are way nicer than anywhere else downtown and fare favorably with decent strip places like Aladdin and Monte Carlo. They run specials every two months or so. The current on is for April and May with most weekends $99 a night and most weekdays $69 a night AND 3 nights for the price of two. There are pics of the new and awesome pool area here: http://forums.lasvegasadvisor.com/me...AR_MSGDBTABLE=

Downtown is worth it if you want to play very low limit 3:2 pay DD BJ, SD BJ,...there are $5 minimum tables everywhere and abundant craps with $3 and $5 limit. It also costs about half what the strip costs to drink and maybe 1/4th of what the strip costs to eat.

If you don't have a car and want to hang on the strip, you should probably not stay downtown. Cab rides are $20-25 to the strip. Waiting for the bus stinks. Also poker downtown is not all that great.

I stay on the strip lots, but am going with some cheapo friends next weekend. We are staying at the Nugget for $99 Friday and Sat and $69 Sunday. We are also seeing Don Rickles.
