why does everyone count lakisha out for a rebound?

seems to me that fantasia was B3 around this time.

this weeks theme should certainly be a good one for her.

If Melinda was absent from the competition, I would surely think Lakisha was poised for a come back. The fact of the matter is, she is very similar to Melinda, and Melinda is an overall better singer and performer. This is aside from the whole niche theory crap - it isn't just that they're both black and have strong voices. They have a very similar style of singing, and Melinda handles herself better. Personally, I think Lakisha has a very powerful voice but it tends to get "muddy" and/or unclear if you can understand what I'm trying to say. Melinda exudes the same power in clearer, more concise way. I think this notion on its own creates a simple domination scenario where Lakisha can't overtake Melinda.

Of course, there is always a chance she comes back and contends. The chances seem to get slimmer and slimmer as each week progresses, however.

Sorry, I guess that wasn't funny. And rereading it today, it came off as serious. Apologies, Vegan. I guess I should have stuck one of these on there.

She's really only had one good performance (that first week). Otherwise, I don't think any of her performances were better than ANY of Melinda's and most of Jordin's. Even Phil had Sting and country night that were (arguably) better than every Lakisha performance (save that first one). And I think her lack of enthusiasm during the announcements make her look like a nasty woman. Given that we only get a few minutes to make an appraisal of their personalities, I would guess Aloof during announcements = bitch to many. Also, I made this post without really knowing what this week's theme is. Inspirational songs? She could do well with that one, but given the ratio of bad to good performances, I'm not betting on it. And I sort of agree with Thing on her being a poor man's Melinda. Phil, Chris, Blake and Jordin all bring things to the table that she can't. And Melinda brings everything that she can except she does it a lot better. I haven't done my B3 yet, but Lakisha's on it.

PS, where are you soflat?

Clearly Granny is the devil's advocate of this season. He has both Melinda and Blake in the B3 this week.

Agreed... I don't blame him. He has nothing to gain. He's springing for the prizes anyway. (I remembered this time)

i have a couple of reasons to think that melinda is beatable. they have to do with personality & likeability. she is certainly likeable, but in a very boring, ultra-polite fashion. and to me, her personality is non-existent. there's nothing compelling to me. she's an established professional, and that may actually hurt her imo.

as far as whether lakisha is the one that can beat her, i'm a sucker for her backstory (being a banker now), and i think if she gets soulful and starts to do the fantasia bobo on stage, as we have seen her do, her chances go way up.

Granny, I agree re: Melinda's personality, but I don't think it's enough to put her below Lakisha. I do think, however, that it may keep her from winning the competition.

Any reason why? I'd rather put my hate towards Chris who comes off as an arrogant douche bag (especially with his nasally comment to Simon last week).
