This sounds really interesting and I definately think you are on the right track with this guy. I myself go to a therapist for other stuff since way back and lately we talk exclusively about poker, since that is basically all I think about anyway and it is also a manifestation of all the other issues you have in life.

You really think a lot of stuff during a poker session that might not be optimal. I think BCT can go a long way to make you aware of them and then getting some tools to deal.

Good luck and I think this might help you in other areas as well.

Here are a few distorted thoughts I had this weekend.

"I should be wining 5-10K a week in these games"
--Should statement, just because I'm capable of those results doesn't mean it "should" happen.

"I can't believe I'm running this bad" & "I don't deserve this"
--not sure of the exact distortion yet, I don't have the list in front of me, but it sure sounds distorted, I'll update this later

"It sucks that I only won 1k, because I was up 2.5, but got drawn out on twice in big pots."
---discounting positives, I won, but I'm unhappy I didn't win more.

At this point I'm not trying to correct the distortions in my thought, just idetify them and become aware of them as they happen. There's alot to learn here, I'll miss it just by trying to "fix" it, plus, I have no idea how to correct it yet anyway.

James McKenna, PhD Beyond Tells: Power Poker Psychology don't know publisher, but 2p2 didn't pick him up. Book is OK, but makes a lot more sense when you read it after Caro.
