The house dog got run over a couple years ago. He had a broken pelvis and required surgery, for ~$3k. The three of us roommates split the bill and, in retrospect, it was easily worth the cost.
He is very healthy, you can see him being the giver in my avatar.

my cat has kidney failure also, we've probably spent at least 5k on him in the last couple years. it's worth it in my mind. he's pretty old, and now he's starting to piss all over the house but i'm pretty sure he's only doing it cuz we we got another cat not too long ago.
