After some more conversation, the opinion at my job is that some of the Star Trek's were better than the original, but it's been 15 years since I watched them.

Any trekkies want to voice an opinion?

The only one anyone's mentioned that I agree with is Aliens > Alien. Spiderman 2 I guess had to be better than Spiderman but that's just because Spiderman blew so hard that it would be impossible to make a suckier sequel, they clearly used up all of their suck in making the first one.

Yeah, Wrath of Khan was the best.

A lot of people just didn't like the first movie at all, but I did.

Missing in Action II was better than I

Some of the Dirty Harry follow ups top the original - Sudden Impact for a couple of great scenes.

No way is Mad Max II better than the original , in the same vein that the original Rocky and Terminator movies are better than the follow-ups. In all these examples the orignals were grittier movies and the sequels could never stand on their own. Godfather II is an exception - it easily stands alone as a great movie.
