Re: Would this make the NBA about 5,546 times better to watch?
[ QUOTE ]
Well, I'm so old-school that I still think college hoops would be better without the shot-clock. No, I'm not kidding. [/ QUOTE ] Surely you are though....I mean you'd WANT to watch outmatched teams try and hold the ball all half? |

Re: Would this make the NBA about 5,546 times better to watch?
How about not allowing a team to call a timeout immediately after the other team called one then?
Example, the Pistons call one with 32 seconds left, two minute commercial. Then they line up to toss the ball in, and the Bucks call one to set up their defense. Another two minutes, then the guy can't inbound the ball safely, so he calls another 20 second timeout. That should not be allowed... |

this is your problem with the nba?
not that the refs, who in most instances decide the outcome of the games, don't have any video review and are in some cases betting on the results? |

Re: Would this make the NBA about 5,546 times better to watch?
[ QUOTE ]
My father always says the NBA was way better without the 3 point line. [/ QUOTE ] I believe this is huge factor in the less aesthetic brand of basketball prevalent today, not only in the NBA but college and high school as well. There is always talk about how players are less fundamentally sound than in the "old days" and I think the three point line contributed more to this than the reasons usually discussed, and offenses geared to take advantage of the three are often less aethetically pleasing as well. |

Re: Would this make the NBA about 5,546 times better to watch?
How about adding a "five-pointer" from anywhere in the circle at midcourt.
Then, if a team was down by four with three seconds left, they would have to defend the MIDDLE of the court, then defend against a five-point shot. All MTV style... |

Re: Would this make the NBA about 5,546 times better to watch?
[ QUOTE ]
OK, reading some column last week and it mentioned the idea of eliminating timeouts during the final three minutes of an NBA game. Ever watched an old NBA game, they go BACK AND FORTH with awesome intensity. There is no timeout after timeout after 20 second timeout. I would tweak it and allow a team to call one timeout from 3:00 to 1:00 remaining, and a second with less than a minute left. Would this work? Would this increase ratings and produce millions of extra dollars of revenue? Curious what you think. [/ QUOTE ] brilliant. i can't stand the constant interruptions. i can barely watch basketball any longer. ncaa tourney is about it |
