I would assume it's because of playability when we get called in multiple spots...raggy aces don't do so well multiway but QJ can make a few action-straights and flops top pair reasonably often without the reverse-implied issues when getting coldcalled/3bet with A9 and you flop an A.

Preflop equity doesn't do us much good in these aggressive games because we are rarely able to realize our A-hi's value since we'll usually end up folding the best hand to aggression from semibluffs on unfavorable boards, unless our opponnents are particularly passive. At 5/10 i'd be happy to raise A9 and get 2 bad callers, at 15/30 i'd rather have QJ.

I think I'd rather have A9 for sure when the raise hits the blinds, OOP or 3 bet QJ does a bit better, I'm sure.

Malmuth says in esasy that u should want a tight image when u play holdem since u want people to fold when u bet without a hand - something u do a lot. If this is correct we should fold these hands if we cant make them into substantial winners because we will - theoretically - win more on our other hands.

He's saying that hands that only show a very slight edge in immediate value should be sacrificed so that you're able to find more value bluffing / semi-bluffing (which would supposedly show a larger overall gain). This is the 24/18s battle cry, whereas the 35/25 "thinks" that even hands with an even to slightly negative expectation still allow you to interact with your opponents more and therefore allow you to have more metagame control and adding value to the rest of your hands. Obviously what hands you raise UTG isn't going to have much of an impact on any of this, it's mostly a stealing and defending thing where the contrast between hands is small. The belief that a tighter player has more folding equity than a looser one in a large player pool like Party Poker, though, is mostly ficitious. How loose you play should just usually depend on your opponents, yourself, and your immediate expectation with the hand.

Am I the only one with a utg vpip of 17 and a button of 35, that makes me a 31/23 even though I'm rather tight utg?
