Well, guys, the link I got it from is now busted, as are many of the places you could get it a few days ago. Finding the rogue blog out there that still has it might take some work.

I can understand any lukewarm reactions the first few times through. For some reason, a lot of their melodies take a while to sink in for me. I think this album uses a lot of smaller intervals melodically, which aren't as "catchy" immediately as, say, A.C. Newman.
I also understand not wanting to spend 3 hours listening to an album to get anything out of it. For me, the reward is well worth it.
As far as their live show is concerned, I saw them last year and they played very aggresive versions of their songs. I was pretty surprised to see more of a rock show than a pop show, which is what I was expecting. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and would gladly see them again.

Just an unrelated side note: If anyone gets a chance to catch Wilco on this tour, they are playing better than ever.

(I might also loosely analogize it to the shift in Radiohead's sound from OK Computer/The Bends to Kid A/Amnesiac.)

This is spot on.

You must not have seen very good live shows then? They aren't terrible, but having seen them three times in the last 6 years I have to say they are just really "meh".

Great live indie bands:

At The Drive In
Broken Social Scene
Arcade Fire
Milemarker
Mogwai

I'm very curious to hear what the new album is going to sound like with Johnny Marr on guitar. Also, if anyone has an extra ticket to one of the nyc shows let me know. By the time I found out about them they were already sold out.

this analogy doesn't aplpy imho.

I think the new album is very good, but I don't think it's extraordinary or their best
