That's what you get when you mess with the Rays

i guess i just don't see the point in generating bad will against a potential trading partner for nothing in return.

Aren't intra-divisional trades viewed with disdain? I don't know of any data but I know the Os don't care to* do so and I am struggling to recall many A.L. east only trades, and any A.L. East trades of consequence in recent years. For better or worse isn't there a stigma against making a trade, and thus the possibility of a mistake, against a team in your own division?

They have a chip on their shoulder, as do the O's and the blue jays. The blue jays just got their cable deal and splashed some cash around last eyar, the Os just completed the MASN deal and will have more cash to splah around if they choose, and maybe the devil rays feel left out. Either way, the rays feel they got attention, and therefore respect, which is soemthing they believe is needed and valuable. Their is some front office competition/envy going on here.

Not much to lose, some respect in return.

* I view the Javy deal as a salary dump than a true trade, but a trade it is. And the D-rays actions wouldn't get in the middle of a situation like Javy's, where the Sox might emergently develop a major need that could be filled by an overpaid malcontent the D-rays were looking to dump
