An email I just received for anyone in the Ann Arbor area:
"A tribute to: -- Bo Schembechler -- 1929-2006 U-M Diag 10:00 pm Fri, Nov. 17, 2006 Come out to show your support for a true Michigan man who dedicated his life to preserve and advance the spirit and tradition of the University we love." |

If you're thinking of making what you think is a clever or even mildly demeaning post in this thread, don't.
People who knew Bo universally praise him as a man of exceptional character and integrity. I know many OSU fans were raised to hate him, but he was a great man by any measure. He will be greatly missed. For me, I associate Bo with my childhood and my relationship with my dad. I went to a book signing with Bo when I was about 7 years old where he stayed 2.5 hours after he was scheduled to leave, chatting and laughing until the store had to close. He autographed a hat for me, and I'll be wearing it tomorrow. |

Growing up Bo Schembechler was a household name.
His heart may have failed, but it was filled with passion and good will. He turned many boys into men at the University of Michigan. A man's man who taught personal responsibility. There should be more like him. God bless. |

I can't decide if the timing of his death is hearbreaking or just amazingly creepy.

[ QUOTE ]
As for all this "biggest game ever" hype about tomorrow (third time we've heard that this year if you count the Rose Bowl), I don't know if it's even the biggest in their rivalry. ESPN was airing a game in the 70s with Bo, Hayes, and Archie Griffin. Both teams were undefeated and it ended up being a 10-10 tie. The game seemed to have tremendous gravity to it, in no small reason because of the coaches, and makes me wish Woody Hayes hadn't whacked that kid so their rivalry could have continued long enough for me to remember it. [/ QUOTE ] The gravity of that game was even bigger because only one team from the Big 10 got to go to a bowl back then, the champion going to the Rose Bowl. After the game, when Michigan and Ohio State were tied for the conference championship, the conference voted to send the Buckeyes. The next year the Big 10 allowed more than one team to go to a bowl. |
