Re: basic question (for a newbie)
i lol every time this gets bumped. it's interesting how clear it is why aba is as good as he is now. if a normal guy had posted this HH, it would be less like this:
[ QUOTE ] $50 on party both villian and I have 60 dollars behind us. He has made $4 dollar raises with 22. UTG limps, he is a bad player who calls pot sized bets with bottom pair. I raise to $4 with QQ, and he reraises making it 10 to go. What is my plan the rest of the hand and why. [/ QUOTE ] and more like this: [ QUOTE ] $50NL on PP I have $60 and Villain covers. UTG limps, I raise to $4, and UTG limp re-raises to $10. Call, raise or fold? (followed by a bunch of one line answers) [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: basic question (for a newbie)
I love this thread everytime it surfaces.
FWIW I always kind of thought the implied odds were barely there to call fishing for top set hehe. |

Re: basic question (for a newbie)
Folding is retarded... tho reraising here for value is an option, I think flatcalling is best and sticking it in on safe flop is good. If we reraise here and get shoved in, it puts us in a spot where we could be a substantially smaller favorite than if the $ went in on an all undercard flop. Flatcalling here is best, and depending upon the texture of the board, raise or call his continuation bet. I would not fold to any flop continuation bet, but if an A or K hits, I would flatcall one bet and debate whether it is worth it to put more money in when I can get better spots vs an idiot. Minraise/small raise on an undercard flop b/c this player will overplay/overcall hands like bottom pair or will draw to probably at least one possibly dead overcard, which we will allow him to hit. IMO, this is the best way to get maximum value from this player.

Re: basic question (for a newbie)
BTW this thread is awesome for the aba history but the advice and discussion in the beginning is really freaking awful. See for example Grunch's nice database analysis of what hands limp-reraise.

Re: basic question (for a newbie)
Amazing how you can tell from his OP how well he thought about the game even back then though.
