thank you for your reply. The river bet was very large to be considered a value bet.

oh, so you would consider calling it with a marginal hand...? so....umm.....nevermind.

el i did not mean it that way. Maybe I am not coming across correctly in my wording. To me without seeing your cards it felt like a bet that either was a monster hand or did not want to be called. I think of a value bet as a bet giving odds of calling according to the pot size. If I am wrong please correct me. I am not criticizing your play in any way. I just found the hand interesting even though I did not know your cards or your opponents. Ive been playin poker since I was 25 and full time online for over 7years. Am 38 now. I used to talk alot of poker thru instant messenger with others which I found alot easier since you normally could reply faster almost like a normal conversation. Posting here I find a little troublsome as I have many thoughts and questions but trouble finding the exact words to use in a public forum.

a value bet has nothing to do with pot size or bet size.
it is simply the biggest bet you can make which you think your opponent will call.

One of the hallmarks of a good player is willing to value bet aggressively non nut hands. Youll find that all these lines blur as you move up in stakes. For example, Sometimes you make a bet that you are not sure is a bluff or a valuebet but it is a bet that you have to make.

KKF,

In this hand, I believe it was 25-50 auto-open preflop, repop (me) w/ some marginal BS cuz I didn't think he had much. I pot flop and turn, leaving me w/ I believe slightly less than a pot bet left on the river.

bug,

In these games, a pot bet is a very "normal" bet and often stands as much chance as getting called as any other bet.
