When people post hands like this my first thought is that they aren't focusing on the things that will truly improve their results

I really don't think you see a set of Qs or Ts getting checked twice here very often. Shaun says he's seen it but I think that's extremely rare.

I guess J9s is out of his pf range?

fsoyers its set of qq or air here never set of 10s. Donk logic goes that they think everyone folds anything but tp+ to a bet and when they have top set they think that theres no way anyone has the Q and they check. Bad players play top set soo badly and you can notice it 90% of the time, they want action but fear no one has anything which is semitrue but they miss soo much value when they do.

One of my favorite lines in HoH is about how everytime he hears someone explain their train of thought as to how they've been beaten set over set and they figured it out and let the hand go, he thinks, "idiot."

People typically play two pairs on this flop the same way someone would play trips. Regardless of not folding pre-flop, you're in a situation you have to take.

Villain is 17/8/4 over 123. He's been quiet for a while. I've been somehwat active.
Blinds 200/400 with 50 ante. Villain is MP1, hero is MP2 with 88.
Preflop: Folds to MP1, MP1 raises to 1600, hero calls, all others fold.

FWIW, you've hit the hand you've been looking for. You're playing a tight Middle position player. Your decision about to play against him is already made. You have to be almost absolutely positive he has the goods to fold here. The fact that you aren't sure makes this a hand you should be calling.

Fold or reraise preflop to isolate and maybe get a bit more information on where you stand.

PS You're playing the flop weak by checking behind, IMO.
