Default Re: Question for those with $1K+ bankrolls

Originally deposited $100 into <Poker Site A> and played my way down to $11 via $0.10/$0.25 NL. I built that back up to about $200 via $5 SnGs and then more $0.10/$0.25 NL. (Those were the smallest stakes at the time.) Took that money out and put it in <Poker Site B> where I quickly rolled it up over $1,000 going from $0.10/$0.25 up to $0.50/$1 NL (NL25 to NL100).

I later cashed everything out and have just recently started playing online again. A buddy fronted me $30 that has become just shy of $70 (and he's paid back), mostly from the $5 SnGs. I tried the $0.50, $1 and $2 SnGs, but found that I was not able to play my game as effectively at those levels due to too many morons. And I didn't really want to get too much in the habits I would need to kill that game when I play $1/$2 cash home games and $2/$5 at casinos.

My advice is to move up to the $5 games. Your roll is big enough to play those just fine. If you go on a bad run or just find that you're having trouble with the transition, move back down to the $2 games. If the $5 games work well for you, move up to the $10 games once you hit $200-250. (Knowing that I can beat the $10 games, I plan to move up at $100, but I don't recommend that for beginners, even if you play a lot live. Online is different and takes some adjustments to your strategy.)

The other side of the coin is the cash games. If your boredom with the $1 SnGs has more to do with the SnG part, cash games can be a nice change of pace. Play the $0.05/$0/10 cash games for a bit and see how you do. There is money to be made from both SnGs and cash games. It's really more of a personal preference as to which suits you best.

First time around, I started with a $50 deposit on UB playing $.05/$.10 limit. Eventually branched out to Party/Stars/Full Tilt with lots of bonus-whoring back when bonuses were plentiful (and it only cost me $1300 to clear my $600 FT signup bonus. ). Ran it up to just over $4000 at one point before cashing everything out for personal expenses.

This time around, I started with the $.80 that UB wouldn't let me cash out, won one of their $50 freerolls with a $10 first prize, and I've run that up to about $200 so far.

Started with $5. How come grinding the SNGs has become hell? You aren't making gains in your bankroll, or they are boringly easy? If it's the former, don't bother putting more money into your roll; focus on improving your skills. If you're beating them, definitely move up. When I had $100 I was playing $3+ .45 SnG's - if you're doing OK at the $1's you can surely take a shot at something a little higher.

I consider myself a winning player at the $1 SnG's (refer to sharkscope, JMX29 @ pokerstars), but whenever I move up to the $3 SnG's, I start running so bad that I have to move back down. Should I play in 1-table $3 SnG's instead of $3 multi-table SnG's to reduce variance?

grind sngs.

then immediately move to 100 nl as soon as you have 20 buyins.

50nl is seriously seriously rigged.

Well I made 1500 from a 50 dollar no deposit bonus on partypoker.

But I also deposited on betfair. Usually about 200.

1$ SNG don't make sense, I don't thikn you can play seriously there because nobody gives a [censored] about that MUCH of money.

After losing around 2k on Party, Hollywood and Golden Palace over 2 years, I found 2+2 and a couple months later the Internet gambling law was passed.

With my game much improved and getting better every week, I deposited $150 on Ultimate Bet in Nov. 06. At one point it was down to $67, but by playing mostly cash games (but a few low stakes MTT final tables) starting at 10NL working through the levels I now have $2500+ and am playing 100NL.

Keep in mind I play at most 10 hours a week.

I sure wish I knew how to play when the fish were still swimming.
