Josh, Can you clarify the keyword research phase on Day 3? Does this mean you are finding various search phrases that relate in some way to your selected niche?

For example, for the forum project I am focusing on Real Estate Investment Trusts. What sort of keywords would I want to have in my list at the end of day 3?

Think about whatever your niche is...

In this case investment trusts related to real estate. How would you search for those on google or other search engines? Those are the type of keywords/phrases you're looking for.

Here's a small list of something I came up with no idea how good or accurate these are. Nor have I done any sort of research into how much traffic they get. But just to give you an idea.

BTW sometimes the software I use for this mixes up the order of the words.

So, once you have a long list of various key phrases like you included in your post, you go through each one and find out which ones have the most traffic and possibly the most paid ads, and then write articles that specifically target that keyword/keyphrase?

My niche is actually investing in REITs, so I'm guessing the kind of search phrases I should be listing out will be things like

information on REIT investment
making money with REITs
how to value REITs
publicly traded real estate
etc...

Sound right?

Thanks - I remember seeing that thread now.

Any idea how many searches are needed to make it a worthwhile target phrase? When I put "REITs" in the keyword selector tool, most of the phrases that come back had between 25 and 125 searches done on them in a month.

Some estimates I've read say that you can take what overture says and multiply it by about 5 to estimate google searches.

So if we take all the applicable terms and estimate google + yahoo + MSN traffic you're looking at tens of thousands of searches per month. Plus I'd imagine those are pretty decent paying keywords for AdSense or any broker affiliate programs you may have joined.

where do you host your sites? what do they cost monthly?

every time I think about getting in this whole adsense thing I'm thinking the hosting will be so expensive compared to the money you will make with your small niche optimized website.
