Re: Two tipping scenarios that have been bugging me
[ QUOTE ]
Saving just the tip is almost negligible, and makes the hookup hardly worth it for me to go out of my way. [/ QUOTE ] So don't go out of your way, then. -McGee |

Re: Two tipping scenarios that have been bugging me

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] You goto a bar. Your friend is bartending. If he was not there, the total bill should have been something like $40 + tip. He charges you for only a few drinks - and the bill comes out to $15. What is your tip for him? [/ QUOTE ] I used to bartend and still go to places where I get hooked up by the bartenders. It is standard practice to tip the money that you would have paid for the drinks you were hooked up with, but no 20% on top of that is necessary. So, if your tab would have been $40 and he only charged you $15, just give him $25 on top of that to make it $40 total. Oh yeah, and Mr. Pink's diatribe about not tipping usually puts me on life tilt, esp. since it was only a dollar. [/ QUOTE ] See, this is what I would say the majority of people do, but it seems unbalanced to me. My friend ends up making $40, and I save $8. In terms of relative difference, the friend would have normally made $8 (so he's +$17), and getting a WAY better deal than I am. Saving just the tip is almost negligible, and makes the hookup hardly worth it for me to go out of my way. Maybe I'm just a cheap bastard? (FWIW, I actually do tip the full price - tip, but think it's unreasonable). [/ QUOTE ] I see your point, although I said give your friend $40 total so he would be making $25, minus what he has to tip out to busboys/barbacks or share with other bartenders. What also must be taken into consideration is the fact that giving away free alcohol is against the law (in my state anyway) and most likely against the policy of the establishment and can in some cases be grounds for termination if the boss found out. So its kind of like hazardous duty pay, but not really. I agree though, the whole hooking up drinks thing is only marginally worth the effort for both parties, if at all. |

Re: Two tipping scenarios that have been bugging me
So, what's the proper tip for where I nut on the hooker? Should there be varying tip values for stomach, face, breasts, ass, in mouth?
Would appreciate best tipping advice ASAP! Ray |

[/ QUOTE ] Ya, I considered this (and fixed my post to comment that he made 25, not 40). I guess if he's putting his job at risk he can take a bigger share of the difference. Probably better off just flasking it and ordering cokes |

Re: Two tipping scenarios that have been bugging me
z, bryan:
"It is standard practice to tip the money that you would have paid for the drinks you were hooked up with" I've been part of this type of "arrangement" at dozens of places where I either know staff or am a regular, and it's not standard at any of them to pay for all the drinks you were given for free. The general rule of thumb in this situation everyone I know uses is to tip about half of what you got for free. In this case, $30-35 is the right range to leave. |

[/ QUOTE ] this is what i've been doing, mostly because that's what was agreed was fair the last time we had this thread (there are too many tipping threads to actually be able to find that one in particular through searching, sorry) |
