the door store (link) has a few modern bed frames with prices somewhat lower than crate and barrel or room and board.

for even lower priced beds, check out www.allbeds.com

400 count sheets FTW.

you can never have a high enough thread count. in college I had 80 count.

2 decorative pillows, everything else is normal.

Agreed. The three sets my wife and I have in the rotation are all 350 or 400 of a couple of different types of cotton......very soft, very comfortable.

I disagree. We bought a set of 1000 thread count sheets because were like "ZOMF 1K, gotta get that!", they do not breath as well as lighter sheets and are very hot. They are also not as soft as the others, even after multiple washings and some use, but that may have more to do with the type of cotton than thread count.

How much of this kind of stuff do people have? I imagine almost none for the younger guys, and tons for the older married folks. Curious about those of us in the middle.

Male college student here.

I have two sets of bedding, with each set having a fitted sheet, a regular sheet, and two pillow cases. With that I have an egg-carton mat (for those hard mattresses in dorms) and a padded sheet to put on top of that, with elastic straps to keep it on the bed. I have one comforter and two pillows. That's it.

I read somewhere that over 200 count the sheets don't breath e as well and it's actually kinda nasty. Of course this was after I bought 400 count which are fine, but when I buy new bedding I'll probably find a nicer cloth 200 count.

Bumping this thread.

I'm moving to a new place and I'm looking to have a cool and comfortable bed setup for <$500 ($650 max total).

I don't particularly want memory foam, unless the product is really good (it'll likely be out of my budget if it is though.)

I was thinking of getting a large Ikea bed and frame, a Ikea foam mattress and then topping it off with a pacific coast featherbed.

Any ideas/deals/advice?
