I agree. These boards are like [censored] crack.

I can't even take a poker break without venturing to these forums.

That's why I included lots of Ifs!

I spend enough time dealing with idiots via work that I have fully adjusted to other players not playing like me. (i.e, I'm smart!)

I'm not sure whether I'm addicted to 2+2, or just a huge procrastinator.

For better or worse, I am at my computer during work hours 95% of the time. And because my projects tend to be quite large and time consuming, I find myself in frequent need of breaks.

But there is no question that the amount of time I spend here is seriously -ev. I'm open to suggestions about how to get this under control.

[ QUOTE ]

do not open a web browser before you start a session. Everything will lead you back to 2+2, I promise. Just stick to the game plan.

Yessss massster, I will obey...

Great post. I've forced myself to do this lately to keep myself from being distracted while I play and it feels really good. I constantly get the urge to fire up a browser and check my email, see what's new on 2+2, browse some porn, but I have to remind myself to just focus on what I'm doing.

Some people tell me they run out of stuff to do on the internet... I could literally sit here all day and still have stuff I want to check out.

I love 2+2. I appreciate it for what it is. THE best place to find out about and discuss poker. But at the end of the day, it's just a resource (OK,a VERY good one). I try to use it efficiently. My own answer (as to how keep the surfing under control) is this:

I have made a "Daily Reading List" set of links on my site. Each lunchtime at work, I fire up this page

My Daily Reading List

I then click each link in turn- working my way down the page. Close each forum after reading. Job done. Back to work.

As my experience and skill (hopefully) grow, I'll change the list accordingly.

The key to most things (inlcuding poker, the internet, etc) IMHO is Discipline.

I think everybody should learn that before they move onto SSHE.

Regards,
Ian

At one time, I decided to only visit the forums once a week to scan for any useful topics, only breaking the rules if I had a legitimate question that I needed answered. You'll find that most of the time there aren't that many groundbreaking topics that are really being brought up on this site, or any site for that matter. Most of the time its the same questions being asked again and again, ranging from "what are pot odds" to "could I have played this differently considering the results of being outdrawn by a two-outer on the river". Even the psychology forum is filled with the same questions, "how to deal with tilt", "why do I tilt", "when is tilt really a problem?"

When reading less often, you'll spend less time on useless topics(since there are so many) and spend more time trying to get the most out of the good ones.

I only play B&M, so I don't have the whole problem of playing, breaking, and tuning into 2+2. I think that if I did play OL, I would have this problem. I do notice that I tend to spend way more time on these forums while I am on a downswing.

PS: if this thread continues long enough, reading it may be an addiction.

Lol. I know exactly what you're talking about. I've only known about 2+2 for less than a month and already I've done 68 posts.... I'm becoming worried because I'm starting to check and post more than actually studying! At this pace I must start to worry. At first I wanted to post as much as possible to get rid of the 'stranger' moniker, and I didn't like the 'newbie' title either so I continued posting until I found relative calm being called a 'journeyman'. Seriously, how dumb can I be to fall for this? The 2+2 people are so smart.

....I find it so addicting to see your thread grow and watch the number of 'views' skyrocket, somehow I find that satisfying.

But I know I have an addictive personality, so before this becomes a potential problem I'll start cutting my 2+2 time significantly.
