Re: Stars $11r Hand: QQ UTG vs. BB
[ QUOTE ]
By the way, there's a point here that I think gets me a lot of chips quite often. Most villains expect you to raise with good but not great hands, having no idea about the WA/WB concept. "Raise and take it down," etc. I am amazed how often a villain in this spot, say holding 99 or something, bets the turn when you call, and then bets the river allowing you to call again. Being a calling station in the rights spots can be very +EV early in online tournaments. I view Lloyd's hand as just such a spot. [/ QUOTE ] Agreed. Regards, Woodguy |

Call it down, he rarely has a K here. Let him give his money to you. [/ QUOTE ] so are you calling his push on the turn? b/c thats what my play is as the villian here. pot size is ~9k and effective stacks are ~10k. any bet and call on the turn means you are pot committed, so why not just jam it in on the flop? |

Becuase the best way to get money from inferior pp is to let them bet into us. Pushing means they might fold them.

Dont be surprised if they call your push either. Besides, there is enough in the pot now that I am happy to take it down before the turn and river. I think overall, checking behind on the flop was the best course of action and probably check it all the way down too and call any reasonable river bet. |

When can't we call a turn push?

This post is incredibly bad. You are saying "All-in OMG, tourney-life a;lsdkfj;lasdfj;asdf;l"
Why has this board become so weak-tight lately? Brad |

[/ QUOTE ] Think about the fundamental theorem of poker, what mistakes do you let your opponent make by pushing the flop that you don't let him make by calling down? Think about specific hands in his range and decide what action is better. If your opponent has 88 will calling the flop and let him continue to hang himself be better? Yes. If your opponent has A6 will calling be better? Yes. If your opponent has JT WCBB? Yes. If your opponent has KJ does it matter what you do? No. Not every decision is raise or fold, calling and letting people overplay their hands is often the best option since when you push you often won't get action from any hand but those that have you beat. Obviously its important to not get carried away with this, but this hand you are so incrediby way ahead/way behind that anything but calling down would be pretty bad. |

Thanks for all the responses. I'll review and comment in a bit but here's the action after his check-raise:
I call. Turn is A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] He pushes (and has me slightly covered) about t8500 into the t9400 pot. |

Ax is not really in his range given his flop action (unless he has A6). I also would think he would check if he hit his A, but I guess that is making too many assumptions about his level of play. IMO, he either has Kx or 22-JJ, and I think we're winning more than ~33% of the time here, so I call. |
