Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
I think at this point, a Jeter/ARod switch is pretty out of the question...
The Yankees just drafted + signed a SS named Carmen Angelini from Louisiana... he was going to play at Rice, so he wasn't drafted til the 10th round. But, of course, the Yanks threw a million bucks his way and swayed his decision. Apparently, this kid is for real. He's only 18, so once he's ready, that may be the cue for Jeter to move into the outfield. He'd be a pretty decent OF, imo...not sure how the ego would handle that. As much as he's a team guy, leader, etc... going from being a SS for 15-ish years, to the outfield, replaced by a kid... not sure how Jeter would handle it. I would be all for it, though. |

[ QUOTE ] There was talk when he first came up that the day off per inning pitched rule applied before each outing also. If that's true, they did break the rules tonight because he only had one day off then threw two innings. [/ QUOTE ] He had two calendar days off? The yankees had an off day and he didn't pitch in the last game of the Seattle series. What am I missing? [/ QUOTE ] He pitched the last game of the Seattle series. One inning Wednesday, then two innings Friday. |

[/ QUOTE ] I bet center field would be Jeter's best position. His best skills as a SS are going back on fly balls and his arm. He'd probably be very, very good in CF with some practice. But I doubt that's ever happening. By the time Angelini is ready, if he ever is, Jeter will probably be losing his speed and not be fit for CF anymore. |

[ QUOTE ] I doubt Arod would even be league average at SS anymore. His skills have eroded. [/ QUOTE ] the thing is, jeter is so ridiculously far from league average it would still be an upgrade. not today, obviously, but if arod stays, how could the yankees not seriously consider telling him to get into shortstop shape? [/ QUOTE ] because they have done fine with Jeter at SS. |

A-Rod already has the record for HR in a season as a SS and now he's tied for the most as a 3B. They should play him at 2B next year.

Payroll makes it easier to cover mistakes. But moving Jeter from SS until he gets old or his performance declines a ton would be a PR nightmare. |
