Why's your avatar Henry Rootabaga?
Here's a question to the yankee fans present: IYO is chamberlain going to be nearly as effective without the same rules governing his use? |

Why's your avatar Henry Rootabaga? Here's a question to the yankee fans present: IYO is chamberlain going to be nearly as effective without the same rules governing his use? [/ QUOTE ] Cause he's great. I think he will be. But there's a BIG difference between "the Joba Rules" and "The Torre Abuse" That's the main reason the rules were set up, so Torre doesn't turn him into Quantrill/Mendoza/Sturtze/Proctor/Vizcaino. Admittedly, he's MUCH more talented than those guys, but they've all been burned out by overuse. In the end, he'll be a starter come April 2008, so it won't matter much. |

right, but I just think theres no way he'll be as good as he is now if he has to pickup a bigger workload. maybe it's just wishful thinking, but he won't have 99mph heat every night as a starter, and does he have a reliable third pitch? I've even come up with a nickname for him: "Blow-Joba". DUC what I did there?

He may not be sitting at 99 like he does out of the pen, but I'd say he'll still be a pretty [censored] good starter. Oh and he's still working on his change. My guess is that that'll be the focus of spring training for him. |

[ QUOTE ] rules are simple... every inning he pitches, he needs 1 day of rest after examples: friday, he pitches 1 inning..cannot pitch til sunday friday, he pitches 2 innings, cannot pitch til monday ETC ETC ETC domination [/ QUOTE ] Thats 1 rule. I keep hearing on WFAN "Joba Rules" I'm thinking theres like a whole list of stuff. This is a dissapointment because it isn't that funny or a big deal really. [/ QUOTE ] there are several rules. he requires a day of rest equal to the number of innings pitched. he cannot be brought in in the middle of an inning he has to have a certain amount of warmup time there's thought to be a ceiling for his total innings pitched this year, though that hasn't been publically revealed there's also theoretical rules which may or may not have been implemented - if he pitches less than 6 pitches in an inning and then throws a second one, perhaps he only needs 1 day of rest. and the last joba rule is that you're not paying attention if you don't know most of these |

[/ QUOTE ] Another rule is that he cannot enter an inning in middle. He can only start an inning. That is because, as a starter, he was used to warming with as much time as he needed instead of warming up in 3 minutes as some reliever's have to these days. Another rule is that he has a set number of innings he can pitch that the front office has decided upon. But they won't release that number. My guess is it is basically a rule so that they can shut him down whenever they see something dangerous to his health in an MRI or in his delivery. |

There was talk when he first came up that the day off per inning pitched rule applied before each outing also. If that's true, they did break the rules tonight because he only had one day off then threw two innings.
Of course, Cashman has tried to keep the rules secret so it's really all speculation. |

[/ QUOTE ] I read somewhere, Peter Abraham's blog I think, that the number is 130. He's a little over 100 for the season now so they shouldn't have any trouble keeping him under that. |
