Does the wider PUA theory involve ideas for managing and behaving in a relationship? If so, I didn't know that. I've been watching the show and have always scoffed at PUA stuff as being manipulative and phony but obviously there is really something to it. The scene from the first ep where the show hosts go in the bar right after the contestents are in there is pretty ridiculously successful.

I can only state what I have taken from it, which is to look at it from a much broader perspective of the psychology of women. We all know women act differently than men. That whole emotional motivation vs physical motivation and so much more.

What the PUA community can provide you with is thousands and thousands of hours of "I went and tried this, and this is how the girl reacted." This is a monumental amount of real life data that you can use to create theories of why women react certain ways to certain things. What drives them. What creeps them out. At some level, when you get enough into it, you start to also grasp why, and then things can become even clearer.

To me, the PUA community was my own female only version of "How to Win friends and influence people." I was able to understand how better to engage interest from women, whether it be to build attraction, or just to pitch a new idea for a product at work. I was able to understand why they would respond negatively to certain things, and call upon a mountain of history from the community to try to figure out if there were ways to work around areas of negativity, or when I need to just cut and run.

I noticed you called it manipulative, and let's be honest it is. But only from the perspective that every sales person is manipulative, of even your boyfriend. Its manipulative in that the community tries to target things they know women want, and how to give it to them. I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

Yes, depending on who you ask, condoms are effective against pregnancy 90 to 99% of the time, the most common number is a rate of 97% effective.

Pretty sure that number is 97% effective during the course of a year of normal use. I'm not sure what a year of normal use but say its once a week. That would be 97% effective after 50 times of [censored]. 300 chicks would give you something like 6 years of use or an 18% chance of knocking someone up over that run.

I thought they figured the odds just by failure rate, ie take 100 condoms, 3 will fail, no matter when your how often you use them. and this is also assuming 1. you use a condom everytime (and c'mon, 300 chicks? we all make mistakes), and 2. you use the condom correctly everytime.

Do you think mystery bangs only hot chicks? not a chance. Do I think I could bang 300 9s over teh course of a lifetime, yes def, over the course of a year? no, I live in st louis, there probably arent even 300 hot chicks in the whole city.

MY WHOLE point was that, I dont want to bang 300 chicks asap becuase yes, its impossible for anyone but a rock star to bang that many 9s in a "short" amount of time. I dont stick my dick in anything that moves, which was teh whole point of the discussion.


Also, its not being a nit, there is a big difference between saying condoms are 98% effective, and 98% effective over teh course of a year where people use them X amount of times. Hence my apprehension, but it is no longer.

Thanks Ray, that's really interesting and almost makes me want to read the book. There is definitely something to be said for being a successful "salesman" of sorts in life, and as you said, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing.

The Game doesn't give you much in the way of actual PUA. It is an entertaining story about how insane Mystery is when he's not in front of a TV camera.

I started here, then the usenet groups, then the mail lists. Part of the problem is that there is a ton of competition between the various groups, so its hard/next to impossible to find one definitive resource to look at.

well i know almost nothing about mystery except for watching his new show and hearing about how awesome he is from a buddy who works on it. But considering he lives in la and assuming he is one of the best PUA (top 1%...doesn't matter) yes i'd say it's likely that out of the last 300 girls he's slept with, most of them are probably at least a solid 8.

But i agree with you on the no real desire to nail everything that moves... but at least i would concede that it is not the easiest thing to find hot girls to take home every time you go out, and mystery is probably better then most and certainly would have better results then me.

If I lived in LA, from what I understand I have no doubt I could nail at least a 7 at will any night of the week. Is there a will to do so? not really. Once you get passed a certain point with this kind of stuff, its not hard to go home with whomever you choose for the night, its just that in most peoples cases there just arent enough hot chicks out there to go around. I think there is a huge difference between being a PUA, and being good at picking up chicks. Yes, he is probably in the top 1% of PUAs, but they are still a tier below naturally good looking guys (who arent retards w/ chicks), rock stars, actors, etc. PUA gives ALL guys no matter what you look liek a good basis to pick up girls, but that doesnt mean that even if you are the best at applying what you read in a PUA book, that some brad pitt look alike doesnt have a million times better chance at nailing the girl first.
