Re: Bonds Haters: Please post why you hate Bonds
[ QUOTE ]
Do you always measure the greatness of a player by their peak alone? [/ QUOTE ] I wasn't attempting to measure the "greatness of a player" in my example. I was providing examples of which player was better at their respective peak, and when doing so, it is a good idea to measure them by their peak seasons. In case you missed the earlier posts, I clearly said that Williams was on average a more productive hitter over the balance of his career, but said Bonds at his best was better than Williams at his best.....as evidenced by the peak examples. Better hitter, on average, over the balance of their careers (so far)...Williams. Better hitte at their respective peaks...Bonds. Better overall baseball player between the two, over their entire careers...Bonds, and it's not even remotely close. |

Re: Bonds Haters: Please post why you hate Bonds
There was serious discussion of Bonds as the best LF ever in 1998 on r.s.b. Bill James had him #2 in 2000. Bonds' defense and sb went a long way to making up the gap that existed between his offense and Teddy Ballgame's, and that was before he went on his historic tear.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Bonds was/is probably the best defensive left fielder in the history of the game. [/ QUOTE ] I love Bonds and all, but this is like winning the Special Olympics. [/ QUOTE ] I'm sure that Lou Brock, Stan Musial, Rickey Henderson, Willie Stargell, Ted Williams, Ralph Kiner, and Billy Williams, among many many more would be thrilled that you think so highly of their defensive abilities. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I could give a [censored] about their defensive abilities. They could be as bad as Manny and I wouldn't care. The job of a left fielder is to tear the cover off the ball and not look like a total moron in the outfield. |
