It's not obvious that they are the same, but they still are the same. Li = Lee. Fact.

[/ QUOTE ]

There's a lot of facts that are not commonly known. I think most people who put one of those answers down assumed they were different. I also think most people who played the game assumed the other ones (chin/chen?) were different as well. Right or wrong (factually), this game is being played in English and the names are being evaluated based on that.

[/ QUOTE ]
You're probably right.

But I think there were enough people that knew that it wasn't completely clear. I'm not Chinese and I knew about Chen/Chan and the rest. Also as we found out, AlexM and Alex Jacob knew as well that they were the same... and a lot of other people busted out wikipedia, etc. right after the reveal of that question.

Come on. You really don't think I try to run this game as fairly as I can?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't see how you could possibly think I would given the current circumstances. Since no one else seems to care, I might as well drop it though.

Alex,

I think you're out of line questioning Terp's integrity.

I think Terp does know that he was wrong, but thinks that since he already ruled on this to people via PM, that correcting it would be even worse. Its a tough spot to be in.

You've got to be kidding me. Someone asked a simple yes/no question, and he answered it privately. That's what game mods are supposed to do.

If you disagree with him answering that quesiton, fine. He's been doing it all along, and I think everyone has known that. But don't act like he's fixing the game somehow. That's beyond retarded.

Which is why the only fair solution is to not score the question at all. I've already agreed that merging after the PMs would be unfair. Scoring them separately is equally unfair though.

I still think it's a reasonable ruling, but we're obviously not ever going to agree on this.

If I asked for a "common surmane in the US", and somebody from London sent me "Smyth" and somebody from Sweden game me "Johnsson", I'd count those separately from their counterparts too.

This, like your earlier post to me in this thread, completely misses the point.

It's NOT unfair. Not even a little bit.

YOU knew that they were different spellings of the same Chinese name. So did alex jacob, and a few others. MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THAT

Part of sheep is knowing how people will respond. You should have known that if it was between Lee and Li that Lee would win.

And you would be right to do so. The situation isn't remotely comparable.
