Played Stone Creek in Oregon City, Oregon. I used to live on the side of town where this course would have been close, but no longer. I wish I had taken advantage of it earlier. They have a great deal where anytime after 6 you can play as many holes as you can get in for $19, which includes a cart. I actually showed up about 5:30, and he told me to go off whenever, so I was off at about 5:45, off at 9:10, and got 27 holes in. Shot an 83 over my first 18, which I am quite pleased with. If you're in the POrtland area, you have to give Stone Creek a try.

And don't forget the Morning Special during the week. Out by 7am and you can play 18 for $20 walking or $29 w/cart. Not as great a deal as the twilight special, but still pretty good.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow, I didn't even see that. That's a good deal, especially since you won't feel rushed during the morning time, which you will during the evening.

I love days like this. Playing the blue tees at Red Tail in Portland, shot a 53 on the front, easily my worst score in recent memory. I felt ok about it, though, because I was striking the ball well, I just got in some really bad spots, and had trouble adjusting to the green.
Back Nine:
Par-Par-Par-Bogey-Bogey-Bogey-Double-Birdie-Par, for a 40, and a whopping 93.

[/ QUOTE ]

well, the back 9 is def. more challenging than the front nine, so i guess there is some solace in the 40 coming in. 11, 13, and 15 always seem to give me fits.

I played a round with a course pro at Redtail and he said that they have some of the most challenging greens in the PDX area. He still has trouble reading them on some holes because they break opposite the way they read.

[/ QUOTE ]

I had trouble reading the greens, and trouble with speed. The greens seemed SOOOOO slow, and I just never got to a spot where I really believed it. My putting has been spot on, and had pretty much eliminated three putts until Saturday. My front nine issues were compounded by the fact that I have a new driver, and holes where I would normally hit the hybrid safe down the middle, I went with the driver, and ended up needing to punch out.

Incidentally, have you had a chance to play Quail Valley yet? I REALLY liked it, especially for the value.

81 from the back tees at my course (about 6200 yards)

Shot a pretty horrid 43 on the front with 3 doubles, and then decided to punish myself for the rest of the round by blaring Never Gonna Give You Up on my ipod.

Obviously, I'm two under for the nine after the 13th, after a two foot left-to-right swinger didn't even scare the hole. Then I realize I've been singing along to [censored] Rick Astley, and the group playing beside me (most holes on each nine- 27 holes- are parallel to each other) can hear me. I bogey the next three after three-jacking from 20-30 feet twice, and shanking a blast from 30 yards out on a short par 4. After the first bogey I continue blaring NGGYU since the other group's holes fork off. I don't regain any of the magic of the first four holes. I blame Rick Astley.

[censored] Rick Astley.

edit: I guess it wasn't a very good punishment if I was singing along.

BLAHHHHHHHHHH.

I stopped after work to play nine with a new employee at his "home" course. It was the first time I was on this course in 15 years and it's been significantly altered. That being said, I hit the ever-loving [censored] out of the ball all evening. I managed to four-putt twice and three-putt once. I managed a 43 in spite of this crap.

Tip of the day: when putting on a new course, don't pretend like you know what you're doing. If you don't have a solid read, lag the damn thing at the hole and get out with par.

I haven't. Is that the one out west that used to be a farm? Links style? I have a couple of friends that played it very early this year and didn't seem that excited about it. Maybe it's come into shape since then, or maybe their games just sucked at that time.

That's the one. For the cost, it's definitely worth it. I really enjoyed it, the course has a lot of character (not as much as Stone Creek), and was in great shape.

43 in our Wednesday night league. It is, apparently, my new favorite score. In 9 weeks I have 4 43s, 2 42s, a 41, and a 47 and 48 just to keep me humble.

Its been a good year so far. I have the lowest scoring average in the league (there's only nine of us) and its a full stroke less than last year. Mostly from keeping out of trouble off the tee.

Back to Poppy Ridge yesterday...played Chardonnay-Zinfandel at 43-42, which is a good score for me. I think summer has finally arrived in that area, as it was in the mid-90s by the time we finished.

One of the guys we played with claimed a 5, and it's funny to note the difference in the sound the ball makes flying through the air when someone is capable good contact + high swing speed. My ball in flight is like the ship in 2001, completely silent.

Showed off the short game today.

First tee hit my drive to the ladies tee. Hit a three wood to the 100 marker hit a SW a foot away tapped in for par.

Second hole hit an 8 iron thin on a 158 yard par three, knocked the pitch a few feet away made the par.

On the front 9 I hit 7 horrible tee shots and only had one bite me in the ass. On the second par three I hit one OB, three off the green and down the side of a hill. Pitched to about 20 feet and two putted.

Back nine I got it back together and shot a 40. 85 total. Up only a few bucks.
