What's the point of pinch running Eaton for Burrell here?

I blame all baserunning errors on Steve Smith

Re: ***Official 2007 Philadelphia Phillies Thread***
He is so awful. That Burrell blunder can be blamed on him, considering Utley was already at home and the throw was 30 feet off.

Re: ***Official 2007 Philadelphia Phillies Thread***
Seriously, LoDuca took that throw from right in the dugout and Utley was halfway down the line.
Fundamentals are this team's Achilles heel. That being said, it's a much needed win against a left-handed pitcher, which they haven't been able to hit all year. Moyer did a hell of a job keeping them in it. |

Re: ***Official 2007 Philadelphia Phillies Thread***
i dont think u can blame the base coach (on this one) based on how the throw ended up; the decision of whether to go or not has to be made well before. i agreed in holding utley becasue the ball got to the RF quickly and he has a strong arm and theres only one out (at least, until burrell f*cked up).

Re: ***Official 2007 Philadelphia Phillies Thread***
Burrell should have picked his head up after turning 2nd, but I think he picked up the sign from Smith that he was waving Utley home. Smith changed his mind, Burrell didn't pick his head up, we all saw what resulted.
Smith has made a boatload of mistakes at 3rd. I can't see why we can't find someone better for that spot. Everyone wants to blame Manuel, but it seems he has very little direct control over plays like this. |
