Re: Prop bet thread
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I'll bet you can't roll a 12 with two die in 20 attempts. We can bet $1000 per 20 attempts. I have taken 4 or 5 people at this one. Only for $20s and $50s per set though. [/ QUOTE ] This is great and easy. I'm going to have to add this to the repertoire. [/ QUOTE ] Ya. Lot's pf people initially assume that since it is 1/36 to roll a 12 that 18 rolls must be the break even point for them. But you can give up to 24 rolls for this one ad still have the edge. At 20 rolls it is like 58-42 edge for you or something like that so you might want to get some money locked up since you are certainly no lock over a couple of attempts. If you go at $1000 an attempt until someone is up $10000 you are a huge favorite. |

I'd do the McDonald's bet for 10-1 on my gross income from the job for the year.

Re: Prop bet thread
[ QUOTE ]
i will look at a painted wall for 48 hours without sleep, food or liquid. i don't have a clue about what odds this would be. just poker is going badly and i need another source of money. although if i lost it would suck ass. note this is not a concrete offer just something i would consider doing if the money was right. also obv i have never done any training for this, bar staring at pornos for an hour or two and playing online for about 8 hours max in one session, nor would i do any training. [/ QUOTE ] I'd book a lot of money against this. If you did it with no training, and had no history of staying up for long hours at a time, I would give you odds. All this is assuming that if you doze off for 3 seconds, you lose. Perhaps we would need to bring in something to measure heart rate, and/or a medical expert, and/or a camera for judging purposes. |

Re: Prop bet thread
[ QUOTE ]
3. Prop bet that I can qualify to play (either through rating points or winning a seat in a tournament) in a 2008 Magic Pro Tour event (I don't actually have to attend the Pro Tour, just be invited to play in it). [/ QUOTE ] I love the idea of a bet like this. What is your real name (or better yet, give me your DCI #). I want to look up your rating. I'd consider taking this bet, although I would prefer if it were limited to something like 10 PTQs, and I was given odds. That way I wouldn't have to waste a year of my life waking up at 6am every Saturday (which in turn kills Friday nights). If I could find a dedicated person (this would be very hard), I would be willing to bet that I could teach him how to play Magic, and have him qualify for a PT within a year. Would you give me odds on this? Would you be willing to put a lot of money up? |

Re: Prop bet thread
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] In basketball, I know some girls that would be HUGE favorites against a typical college intramural player. If the money is big, i could get her involved. [/ QUOTE ] i don't know what a "typical college intramural player" is really, but i would def be interested in hearing your framing of this bet because i would take it in most cases - just hard to quantify player types. if you want to go with something like "guy who hasn't played hoops above high school" or something similar i would def be down. going to the beach for month of august, but would get it all set up when i get back if you're serious. also - looks like you're talking about the one v one bet - i'd be willing to do same with the 3 v 5 example provided earlier. also - my description sounds like an angle (like i have some dude in mind who is a legend but didn't play college ball) but it's not. i am talking about just going to most parks in most cities and being able to find a dude (or 3) that i would easily back in this. [/ QUOTE ] FWIW, I'm good friends with a girl that was a captain of a very good SEC team. I asked her about some of this, and she told me the following: They would recruit "practice players" from mens IM teams, and they'd look for the above-average to good players that matched up well in terms of height, and play 5-on-5. This apparently made for an even matchup, and helped them get ready for SEC-level play. When asked about this bet, she thought that 3 SEC-caliber men would smoke 5 SEC-caliber women, but that if it was 3 good IM male players, she'd put it on the women any day. I think I agree, Mens or Womens sized ball. Mens size ball, and it's not even close. Put Chris Lofton, Corey Brewer and Derrick Byars out there against the top 5 women's SEC players? Not even close is my guess. They'd just pack it in the lane, let the women shoot from outside, and get every defensive rebound. On the other end, they'd get so many offensive boards I don't see how the women could keep up. The men would probably score on 70% of their possessions. This seems so obvious I feel like I must have misread something, but I think someone said that it would have to be 3 on 5 with equivalent talent levels to be close. As far as 1 on 1 goes, if it's a GOOD IM/playground player with some height (6'4" and up) and skills, I think I'd take them against pretty much any woman in college basketball. Also, wasn't a bet between The DaveR and tuq already made on the 3 Chipotle burritos in 15 mins? |
