Youve all gotta remember this one fact that you haters seem more than willing to forget:

He thought he was guaranteed to come back the next day.

This WASNT his one chance at being on the show, he was in as an alternate for 2 hours basically to fill a seat. Nothing more, nothing less.

With 500k on the table the game would have been miles deeper and he would have played a lot more hands - but ffs, he played for 2 hours. Those of you who dont know what trash you can get playing live for 2 hours have never played live. Ive had 5 hour sessions where i didnt get a single good hand.

[censored] the haters, he turned up to play poker not be a one man band or clown act.

[/ QUOTE ]
I think we all get that.

However, the way he APPEARED on the show made me doubt that he would have played much different the next day. And I guess that's what the producers thought too.
If he lets his poker do the talking, fine. But here there wasn't much play going on from his side. So at least SAY something. He didn't say a single word. People watching this want to relate to the players, they want to know what kinda guy he is. No chance.

And maybe he was a bit naive regarding that guarantee thing, although I don't blame him for that.
Another lesson learned: Don't take anything for granted in television.

Great story, thanks for posting.

Also, a clarification is in order. It's obvious that most of you on this board use the terms 'poker' and 'NLHE' interchangeably. This may come as a shock to many of you, but there are other games besides HE! I guess that's what TV did to poker.

Most of the top live pros are proficient in many forms of poker. Most of the top online pros are HE specialists (mostly NL, but some Limit as well). A few top online guys dabble in PLO, but few are all-around poker players. Thus, it may not be fair to compare your best game to someone else's 2nd or 3rd best game, and then declare yourself to be the better "poker player".

Make no mistake -- if any of the online pros sat in the Big Game, where they had to play a half dozen forms of poker (or more), mostly Limit besides, they'd get their house cleaned. In fact, they'd be the standout donkeys in the game.

The best *poker* players in the world can be found in the Big Game. Not online. That said, I think the toughest Hold'em games are found online. I think a lot of good live HE players would find the going a lot tougher if they had to grind online (like they'd have to move down in limits to win consistently).

Granted, HSP is within the context of NLHE, but misuse of the term 'poker' has always been one of my pet peeves.

i think the online players are way better when it comes to NLHE, LHE and PLO.

maybe LO8 too, its been played quite alot on FTP last year.

and thing is with the stud games is that theyre quite simple games. or well, stud high is maybe the limit game which rquires msot skill not sure about that htough but stud 8 and razz are simple braindead games.

and 2-73D is also pretty simple, i think if the online pros actually sat downa nd played those games theyd learn fast.

so that [censored] about horse being the true test blah blah is a bunch of crap.

and phil galfond seems like really a nice guy from what hes posted here, remarks about personality from a few minutes of TV is just dumb.

his tightness was way overemphasized also.

would be fun to see some PLO too though.'

and hell even horse but guess it aint never gonna happen.

but each time I see Hellmuth, I think he's worse and worse of a player, at least in the cash games. I wish JMan would've offered to play him HU on the spot for half a mil or something when Hellmuth made that nit comment.

Are you people this clueless? Wow! Hellmuth is so above this guy he won't even want to talk to him!
