so after waiting day to see what people i respected thought, i think that manny hit a HR last night and the umpiring crew is retarded.

[/ QUOTE ]

not that it made any difference as to who won or lost, but it was clearly a homerun. anyone with a basic knowledge of physics knows this. a ball does not bounce up when it hits a horizontal surface on its way down.

[/ QUOTE ]

So what is the rule? I figured that if it bounced up it would be a homerun, but the way they talked bout it, it seemed that if the ball hit the top of the fence and came back into the field, then it is not a homerun.

Suppose there was no shelf, just a fence. If a ball hits the top of the fence, then bounces up and back into the field, what is that?

A double(single in this case). The ball has to clear the fence to be a HR.

Uh, it is an atrocity that Manny was only on first. Whether it was a home run or not, it was obviously far too close to celebrate. Completely pathetic that the bases weren't ran.

[/ QUOTE ]

The NL is an atrocity. Manny not running is a mistake.

Would that even be possible? From what I have read (I am not a physics expert) if there was no shelf the ball would not have been able to bounce on the field.

It's not a mistake, he does it all the time. It's his attitude towards the game.

As far as the NL goes.. we'll talk in a week.

I rarely make posts like this, but you honestly have no idea what you are talking about right now. And I highly doubt you could provide objective analysis, in anyway, or even, somewhat convincing subjective analysis, to show how his 'attitude', towards the game, is incorrect or detrimental to his team.

You are right though, it isn't a mistake. A mistake would be the playoff rules allowing the 10th best team (at best) have a chance to win the world series.

I spoke a little out of line.. If you go back and read my previous post you will see I generally love the excitement he shows. It is like a little kid and it is awesome to see. He seems so happy and energetic most of the time and that is without a doubt a benefit to the club. That being said his celebrate, not run out of the box, assume its a pop out or hr stuff is awful. I like seeing him succeed because it is exciting to see how pumped he gets, but at the same time I hope he costs his team a game by not putting effort into base running.

Sorry about the way I said that, was running out of the door and didn't mean to imply that his attitude towards the game is bad.
