Here's my theory:

Jacob is like the God of the island. Ben can talk to Jacob and is instantly revered by the hostiles because they can't talk to Jacob anymore. Ben becomes corrupt and realizes that he can make the island into his own personal paradise by telling the hostiles that Jacob told him X, Y, and Z. Jacob calls Locke (and possibly Desmond and others) to the island so that his true message can get out. The hostiles are growing weary of Ben and don't believe his sincerity so they are eager to hear what Locke says Jacob says.

Kind of some religious undertones. Locke (Martin Luther, Jesus, maybe) is like the true believer and Ben (Catholic church, the devil, false religion?) is someone trying to use the religion's power to further his own goals. Locke has come to lead everyone out of the darkness. I dunno, I'm in an interesting state right now.

In a tentative early stage of an advanced theory, I'm pegging Locke as Joseph and the smoke monster as Esau. The island could be a form of Jacob's Ladder, but as I said, this is all more or less susceptible to change.

i dont post here 100 times a day, look at when i registered and the amount of posts i make, the last bullet i made was somethin that was talked about numerous amounts of people in this thread over and over again, and most of the time not in white, but i'll edit it anyways

Duh. It was so obvious I forgot it. Plus they've been off the show for over a year. Hey, what about Eko? Is all we know of his dad that he was kidnapped by the gunmen when he was a kid and never really knew his parents? Only his brother?

And Ana Lucia -- her mom was a cop, but what about her dad? Non-existant? Claire... we see her fighting with her mom right? What about her dad? Juliet's parents never came into play; just her ex-husband. Boon and Shannon -- they were not real brother and sister, but I can't remember the dad thing; I think Boon hated him for some reason. Shannon's dad was rich or something. Charlie? Sayid?

Claire's dad wasn't in her life growing up. She didn't know who he was until her mom was in the hospital. It was covered in her backstory episode.
