My point was just that it depends on how you look at it. From a revenue standpoint I don't think your statement is true. From a FA $ standpoint it is easily true.

Winning drives revenue. Winning has dollar values attached to it. These dollar values can be attached to the values of players.

Re: ***Official 2007-2008 MLB Offseason Thread***
Meh, I was just being a nit. WAR are actually worth (on average) something like $2.5m I think. I would consider someone in the range of 2-3WAR (total) to be considered average. That means the fair value of an "average" player really is less (or maybe right around) $9m.

Re: ***Official 2007-2008 MLB Offseason Thread***
Rockies and Yorvit Torrealba agree to a deal. Two years + a mutual 3rd year option, total value around $7m, which is roughly what they were offering in first place. Don't know if the $7m includes buyout on the mutual option. Deal is pending a physical.
Matt Herges agrees to a one year deal with a 2nd year club option, also with the Rox. Hardly household names, but good deals for the money, given their roles on the club. I know Yorvit's pretty weak offensively, and throwing out runners, but with guys like Jimenez and Morales, it may be more key having a receiver you can trust, than to have one who will hit 5-6 more dingers, like Barrett. |

[ QUOTE ] also, delmon as much as he's maligned here, could possibly stand to get out of tampa into a different system. TB hasn't been very good about keeping their talent happy. Minn also has really strong pitching and putrid corner OFs, this solves a large whole and gives them some shot at getting a superstar in rf to go with mauer for the long haul. [/ QUOTE ] The problem with him sucking is that each year he takes longer to "get it" puts him farther from ever being a superstar. I'd probably say he was more likely 2 years ago to be a superstar than now. [/ QUOTE ] agree lots with this, but the twins aren't out to lunch on the trade, maybe wishcasting a little too much though. We'll see for sure if morneau/santana are dealt. |

Crisp, Lester, Lowrie and Bowden seems pretty close to being done apparently.
