its not a big deal i was mostly just suprised they pulled petite at 95 pitches given how much the pen needs rest and how well he was doing. and that they have these elaborate rules and inning limits for joba and then put him in a 6 run game. [/ QUOTE ] i think it's the right decision with an off-day tomorrow. underworking a pitcher is just as bad as overworking him. i was surprised that farnsworth did not pitch the ninth, but see above I guess. |

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Something Micheal Kay said tonight was that the front office has a secret number of innings that Joba is allowed to throw this year until they shut him down. Sounds like some Bush administration crap.
Is this just some BS mumbo jumbo so that they can shut him down if they fall out of it and let him pitch in the playoffs if they make it? |

I've read in a few places that they don't want him to go over 130 innings this year. That would be 34 more.

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Something interesting from Peter Abraham's blog:
Joe Torre met with Mike Mussina today for seven minutes. Mussina will start against the Tigers on Monday. But there seem to be no guarantees beyond that. “We’ll see Monday,” Torre said. “We chatted. His arm feels so good and that’s what frustrating for him. We need for him to do more than he did (Tuesday) night. It’s a letdown for him and for us.” Torre was asked what would happen if Mussina pitched poorly again. “We’re going to talk,” he said. “No question.” I'd be stunned if Mussina lost his starting job, but things really do seem to have changed around the Yankees in the last few months so who knows. I also would have been stunned if you told me at the start of the season that Melky would be the every day CF and Hughes, Joba and Edwar would all be part of the pitching staff. |

Does Ian Kennedy have enough innings left on his arm to get a call up?
He'd only have to make 4-5 starts. |

[/ QUOTE ] He threw about 100 innings each of the last three years and he's over 140 this year, so I doubt they want him to throw many more. But if they take Mussina out of the rotation he'd have to be the reason. There's no way they're calling up Matt DeSalvo or Tyler Clippard to replace Mussina in a pennant race. |

I've read in a few places that they don't want him to go over 130 innings this year. That would be 34 more. [/ QUOTE ] Peter Abraham blog is source of much good information: The Yankees want Chamberlain to throw no more than 130 innings this season. He tossed 88.1 in the minors and 6 so far in the majors [as of August 18]. So over the next 41 games, they can squeeze 36 innings out of him. That cap doesn’t include the playoffs. Why 130? Chamberlain threw only 89.1 innings at Nebraska in 2006 and didn’t sign in time to play in the minors. The Yankees sent him to Hawaii for winter league and he got 37.2 innings. So all told in 2006, he got in 127 innings. But there was a four-month gap between his seasons. Studies have shown that young pitchers develop arm trouble when their workloads dramatically increase from one season to the next. Gradual steps are safer. With a prospect of Chamberlain’s caliber, the Yankees aren’t going to take any foolish chances. Edit: This does not take into account the fact that 1 inning as a starter does not necessarily equal 1 inning as a reliever... no? |

Joba is like my favorite ever. My day is better when he pitches. [/ QUOTE ] Totally, I love watching this guy pitch. It gets me pumped up when he gases it up at 97+ and starts dealing nasty offspeed stuff. And it's even better because he pulls this stern no emotion look, I can't get enough of watching it thank god we avoided the sweep... that would ahve been disasterous. made a game back on everyone there, seattle, boston, and detroit. |
