Katy,
All those shoes I bought or considered w/ an eye towards dancing in them in addition to just wearing them around. They're both quite comfortable, and they both have flat, smooth soles that don't grip the ground all that well. The Mezlans will set me back about $180 -- not too much in the realm of dress shoes I suppose, but still a fair bit. |

I think you would be overpaying for Mezlans at $180.

I like this tie. Is this horrible? too conservative?
![]() I think the whole key to the tie/shirt pairing thing is just stick with solid color shirts, right? I don't usually like light colored ties but this one caught my eye. I like it with a white shirt. ![]() What do you think of my tie taste? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I sort of like this. Is this look in style right now? ![]() |

Like the first one. Good for the office.
Don't like the light pukey green on the second one. Not sure if it's a denatured military look or a gay one. Third feels borderline/not for office. Fourth is borderline just for my tastes. It does seem to match black better than it would white. Fifth just looks fugly. Sixth looks annoying busy. Seventh looks okay but I'm getting a big time Guys and Dolls/40's greaser vibe. I like the shirt though. I tend to think a plain tie compliments a busy shirt and vice versa, and don't like a busy shirt with a busy tie much. But my fashion tastes aren't that well developed -- some people can make those combinations work. But I bet more people by far think they can do that right than actually can. And I really mean -- by far. |

I don't know if I'd ever say a tie was "too conservative." Maybe if you're wearing, like, a purple pimp suit or something, but if you're in a regular old suit, a boring tie can't really be a bad decision. You may not win any fashion awards, but it'll never be a faux pas.

Yeah I'm changing my mind about #5 and #6. #5 looks bad to me now and 6 looks too feminine.

Good, reasonable, and good, by my lights.
