[ QUOTE ]
Are you suggesting that Rivera doesn't want to pitch in a tie game, and eagerly wants to pitch in a 3 run game because of money? You think in the playoffs that both Torre and Rivera are well aware that they are hurting their team using them the way they are but have accepted that there's nothing they can do about it because it will cost Mariano Rivera money? [/ QUOTE ] oooh, two strawmen - you put a lot of effort into this one. no, and no. however given the common usage of closers in the past 20 years, and given the save statistic - that's the way things are handled. torre obviously places an inordinate value on the 'save' - thinking it something real instead of something invented - however closers are going to want to get the ball in the save situation because that's how they're programmed as well and that's how they see their peers getting paid. as i said, it's not worth getting upset about, because it's not changing - and that's the real key here. |

On another topic: How [censored] are the Yankees right now? With their starter situation... [/ QUOTE ] Wang: Back April 24th Karstens: Scheduled to be back that same Boston series. Mussina: Only supposed to miss one start Pavano: Also only supposed to miss one start (allthough obviously who knows with him) We also have 4 guys in Clippard, Sanchez, Hughes, and Olendorf who could be big league ready by midseason. We also have this Chase Wright dude who is starting on Tuesday up from Double A. Also, Sean Henn has looked pretty solid out of the pen in long relief. No major injuries and lots of young guys ready to make the jump. I'd say the Yanks are gonna be fine. |

henn has been fine so far but his DIPS aren't too terrific - i wouldn't be happy with him starting.
our depth is a little better than it was in past years though. remember darrell may and tim redding? |

sublime,
i obviously did just estimate 5 wins without doing research to back it up. This really doesn't discredit my point tho much at all if any. If rivera was used more optimally they would win more games. I estimated 5... if you don't like my estimation that's cool, but that doesn't mean rivera is being used optimally |
