skier,

The list you pulled that ranking from is titled...

"Club Members ranked by performance over 30 Days on Apr 28, 2006"

As for bushes, his port was started in Jan '05, which accounts for some of his high NAV.

fwiw, If you click on any of the ports on the list on the ranking page, you can see some of the port detail.

In the real world, real traders go to over 70% cash from time to time. This reduces risk and improves objectivity. It also generates compliance penalties in Marketocracy trading contests.

My current Marketocracy results-to-date pretty much track my cash results to date. I love trading.

Agreed for traders, and the Marketocracy system also punishes traders in other ways including high commission costs... this is a part of their system, as their system is setup to emulate what a Mutual Fund manager would have to deal with, and Fund managers are not going 70% cash.

It's also worth noting that Marketocracy rewards the best performers on their site with a share of the actual mutual fund management fee for the funds created based on their ports.

Maybe if this were over like 10 years I'd say it would be a fair competition... or if a minimum of 40 stocks were required.

What about it being a 12 month competition makes it "unfair"?

The compliance rules do also require that you be spread between quite a few stocks.

If you aren't participating, please join up.

fwiw, I expect that we will continue this beyond 2006. Who knows, we might just be able to keep this going for 10+ years.

Sometimes the MARKETOCRACY site is doing batch updates. When it does this on nights and weekends, it does not act right.

I believe if you try to get set up during normal business hours you can get signed up without issues.

You can't.

You might want to try the new proshare inverse funds for overall market shorts. (PSQ, QID, etc)

Marketocracy allows you to setup Long only and Short only funds... the goal of Marketocracy is to mirror the mutual fund world, not the hedge fund world (unfortunately).

ps... looks like we are up to 70 members registered on Marketocracy, would love to see that hit 100+ by the end of the year...
