I wouldn't be surprised if it's just fatigue. 240 innings is a lot. [/ QUOTE ] my guess is that it's mostly fatigue. which bodes poorly for his next start (I hope). So, by my count Papi has had 18 plate appearances in the playoffs, and has reached base 16 times. I wonder what the record is for that sort of thing. |

Pitching Becket on three days rest in Game 4 only gives us a potential advantage if the ALCS goes 7 games. I don't see a strong argument for doing it. [/ QUOTE ] I can only see 1 scenario where Beckett pitches game 4. 1: we lose the next 2 games 2: Dice-K gets blown up in that scenario, the Sox have to be dreading sending Dice-K up there for Game 7. They're down 2-1, and will need to beat CC/Fausto 3 out of 4. The best chance to do that - and avoid pitching Dice-K in a deciding game - is to get Beckett an extra start. when you consider how rested our big 3 in the bullpen should be - and the day off the day after game 4 - you would probably be happy with 6 innings from Beckett in game 4. |

Re: ALCS - Indians vs Red Sox
some other interesting stuff about starting a guy on 3 days rest in the playoffs. I'm taking this from a BP chat yesterday
"Tom (Tangotiger): (starters on) 3 days rest, since 2004: 3 Wins, 4 Losses, team record of 4-10 here are the games If my math is correct, it looks like 67.7 IP, 65 H, 33 BB, 51K in 14 starts since 2004. Small sample but control appears to be an issue. " now that's not the complete story, and the sample is small. but the results have been pretty poor, especially considering the quality of pitchers normally asked to start on 3 days. |

Re: ALCS - Indians vs Red Sox
With an offense like ours, and the general weakness of the back end of the Cleveland rotation, I'd be really pissed seeing Beckett in game 4.

Re: ALCS - Indians vs Red Sox
great game last night. top of the order really stuck it to sabathia. I like the move taking beckett out after 6. Let's see how the sox do with Carmona. After all, he allegedly has the best stuff since 99-'00 Pedro hahaha

Re: ALCS - Indians vs Red Sox
I think the key for tonight is not trying to do too much, and just doing the little things to help pick up the ball club. I am thinking: 1. hot dogs 2. green tea, 3. Copenhagen dip (alternate with Kodiak). Game face again, like Tek, no jokes, you guys have keep it loose though for balance just like the Sox do.
So be ready to do whatever it takes to pull out a win. I suggest keeping your favorite mind alterers in reserve, but only use them to preserve mental balance if things get tight (unless you need them for mental balance to begin with, then proceed as usual). This ain't no party. This is the playoffs, and there is only one October. |
