I don't know if this whole thing was a scam or not but I found it weird that after asking for donations Vig was playing in the big sunday donkament...

This has been covered, he is a pro poker player, do you suggest that he not play and instead have no income? Him playing 15/30 or $215 donkaments is not an issue, as long as the donation money is kept separate from his role, which may or may not be the case at this point.
